NOTES:

Born in Oklahoma City in 1977, Summer Wheat is a Brooklyn-based artist known for her vibrant paintings, sculptures and immersive installations that weave together the history of materiality, figuration and abstraction. Her innovative technique, as showcased in Stuffy Faucet, involves pushing acrylic paint through fine wire mesh, creating richly textured, fiber-like surfaces that bring her figures to life. Drawing inspiration from ancient art, medieval tapestries and modernist abstractions, Wheat’s work examines various manifestations of labor, leisure, commerce, and class, often depicting figures such as farmers, hunters, beekeepers, and movie stars in densely populated scenes where time seems to have collapsed, allowing every person, regardless of social status, to occupy a shared space.
