Gaylord Perry Signed Swoosh Chair

A true one-of-one, this remarkable vintage Nike chair is both a design artifact and an extraordinary piece of sports marketing history. Created in 1982, this exact chair was used in Nike’s now-iconic poster celebrating Gaylord Perry and his milestone 300th career win, the chair stands as a singular intersection of athletic legacy and brand storytelling. Signed by Perry himself, it is a rare surviving prop directly tied to one of Nike’s most memorable early campaigns.

Constructed in wood, the chair features two oversized Nike Swooshes forming its sculptural base. Fully functional and designed for everyday use, it is as much a conversation piece as it is a collectible object—an instantly recognizable statement of early Nike design language.

Perry’s 300th career victory, achieved on May 6, 1982, made him the 15th pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach the milestone and the first to do so in nineteen years. Perry concluded his storied career with 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts, and a lifetime 3.11 ERA, before his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.

Nike’s enduring reverence for Perry is reflected in the commemorative plaque at its World Headquarters, which honors him as “a craftsman on the mound” whose guile and tenacity secured his place among baseball’s elite.

This lot is further enhanced by the inclusion of two autographed photographs of Gaylord Perry, each authenticated by James Spence Authentication and inscribed to Harry Johnson, a longtime Nike employee, from whom the chair originates.

With direct provenance to a longtime Nike insider and documented use in a landmark advertising image, this is a museum-worthy piece of Nike and baseball history.
