NOTES:
Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1971, Mickalene Thomas is a Brooklyn-based leading contemporary artist whose vibrant mixed-media painting, photography, collage and installations explore themes of Black identity, beauty, and female empowerment. Drawing from art history, pop culture, and personal experience, Thomas creates visually striking works that challenge representation and celebrate complexity. She has exhibited internationally and remains a major influence across art, fashion, and culture. Her touring exhibition All About Love has been showcased at The Broad in Los Angeles, the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, Hayward Gallery in London and currently at Les Abattoirs in Toulouse.
