Speedmaster 'Chrono Chime' Split Second Chronograph Minute Repeater

Launched in 2022, the Speedmaster Chrono Chime reintroduced the world to what Omega is capable of at the very summit of the craft. It is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 1932, the most complicated movement the brand has ever produced, developed over more than six years in partnership with sister manufacture Blancpain and protected by numerous patents. Its central achievement is a world first: it is the first chronograph whose chiming mechanism sounds elapsed time, down to the second, rather than the current time in the manner of a conventional repeater.

The watch also integrates a split-seconds, or rattrapante, function and runs at a high frequency of 5 Hz to permit timing to a tenth of a second — a deliberate homage to the pocket chronographs Omega deployed as official timekeeper of the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games, from which the Caliber takes its name. This is a rare instance of a brand celebrated for its tool watches and its space heritage stepping fully into haute horlogerie and doing so on its own terms, fusing two notoriously difficult complications into a single unified mechanism rather than stacking them as modules.

Fittingly, the execution matches the ambition of the movement. The case is rendered in 18k Sedna gold, Omega's proprietary rose gold alloy, and the dial is finished in blue aventurine grand feu enamel for a deep, star-flecked luster. Each watch is delivered in a walnut presentation box fitted with a spruce resonance plate to amplify the chime, a detail that treats the watch as a musical instrument as much as a timepiece. The Chrono Chime is, in short, a landmark — proof that Omega can compete at the highest level of complicated watchmaking.
