"Project 12:39 is a fiber art installation that transforms a BMX bike into a full-body crochet sculpture, designed entirely in single crochet stitches including handmade flowers using white along with a vibrant red and yellow. This bike symbolizes the 12 years I've dedicated to the art of crochet and the 39 hours of effort and stitch work it took me to complete this project.

The use of the single crochet technique is the first stitch I ever learned. Through honoring my humble beginnings in fiber arts, this serves as a reminder that foundational skills can lead to transformative creations. The bold red yarn ties back to “CODE REDD,” my debut fashion show in Chicago, and stands as a constant in my work representing passion, power, and purpose.

Flowers bloom across the frame as a symbolic gesture of self-recognition. My way of giving my younger self her flowers for staying committed to a creative path despite the odds. While also serving as a testimony of what is possible when you work at getting better.

The final detail, a custom license plate reading “SS1697,” anchors the piece in personal history:

SS – The South Side of Chicago, my home and creative foundation

2016 – The year I began my entrepreneurial journey

97 – The year I was born

Project 12:39 is not just a bike. It’s a celebration of time, growth, memory, and movement both literal and creatively." -Chelsea B
