This incredibly rare record of The Grateful Dead’s very first single, "Don’t Ease Me In" and "Stealin’", was released in 1966 on the short-lived Bay Area independent label Scorpio Records. Pressed in a small run of just 500 copies, the record was pulled from distribution shortly after release due to a disagreement with the band's management and most copies were subsequently destroyed. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the rarest and most important 45s of the 1960s counterculture era and Grateful Dead memorabilia.
This genuine first pressing features matte red labels and “Commercial Recorders Inc.” etched into the run-out grooves on both sides. As one of the earliest tangible recordings from the Grateful Dead, this single captures the band in their formative period, reflecting the raw energy and creativity that would define their pioneering contributions to rock, psychedelia, and the jam-band tradition.
