Debbie Harry photographed at Max's Kansas City — the Park Avenue South club at the heart of New York's music scene — in 1976, the year of Blondie's signing to Private Stock Records and the release of the band's debut single "X Offender". Bob Gruen's tiger-dress portrait catches Harry at the moment her image was beginning to consolidate into the public icon Blondie's next four albums would build on.

Gruen photographed Harry across the entire Blondie run, and his images of her from the mid-1970s New York scene remain among the most widely reproduced of the era.
