JAMIE REID (1947–2023)
Liberty For All
signed, titled and numbered by the artist
silkscreen with diamond dust
44 1/8 × 32 1/2 inches (112 x 82.4 cm)
Executed in 2013. This work is an artist's proof.
A white-on-white silkscreen with diamond dust — the deliberately spectral handling Reid used across his gallery output, set against the directness of the slogan itself. Liberty For All condenses four decades of Reid's political work into a single phrase, running from his pre-punk agitation at the Croydon-based underground press Suburban Press, through his role as the visual architect of the Sex Pistols, into his late painting and printmaking in the years before his death in 2023.
The diamond-dust technique — particles of fine glass applied to the wet ink — gives the surface a quiet glitter that catches light differently from any direction, a deliberate counterpoint to the bluntness of the words it embeds.
