A pair of original stiletto heels from SEX, 430 King's Road, the boutique Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren ran on the King's Road between 1974 and 1976 before its rebrand as Seditionaries at the end of that year. The SEX-period shoe range — alongside the bondage garments, the rubberwear, the explicit-print T-shirts and the metal-hardware accessories — was the design programme on which Westwood and McLaren built the visual identity of British punk in the year before the Sex Pistols' first single. The shoe range from the brief SEX period rarely survives in wearable condition; they were mostly discarded post-use.
