Born in Los Angeles in 1974, Joel Mesler is known for paintings that blend autobiography, humor, and playful design to explore themes of memory, identity, and healing. Drawing on childhood experiences, popular culture, and bold patterning, Mesler creates works that balance lighthearted wit with deeper emotional undercurrents. Mesler has exhibited widely, with recent solo shows at Château La Coste, Provence; the Long Museum, Shanghai; and David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles. His recent shows include Joel Mesler: Miles of Smiles which opened in August 2025 at Guild Hall in East Hampton.
