A 2013 digital print on 100% cotton fine art paper by Bernard Frize, the French abstract painter whose signature process — pouring pigment across a surface and letting flow, chemistry, and choreographed movement determine the final composition — has made him one of the most identifiable painters working in the post-Supports/Surfaces tradition. Caisse (French for "crate," "case," or "till") sits within Frize's ongoing investigation of controlled accident: the setup is deliberate, the surface event is not.
