NOTES:
In this 2013 work, Shantell Martin inscribes her characteristic facial linework into marble, embedding it with the text: "SOME DAY REMEMBER". This phrase, curling around the contours of the hand-shaped head, evokes themes of self-discovery and awakening - hallmarks of Martin’s introspective and identity-driven practice. The piece unites the permanence of stone with the immediacy of her drawn language, creating a contemplative artifact that bridges drawing and sculpture.
