Maripol is a multifaceted French-born artist, photographer, filmmaker, and fashion designer who became a pivotal figure in the vibrant downtown New York City art and fashion scene of the late 1970s and 1980s. She is renowned for her influential styling, particularly for music icon Madonna, as well as her jewelry designs and her iconic Polaroid photography capturing the era's luminaries.

Maripol embraced the Polaroid SX-70 camera as her primary medium for documenting the dynamic cultural landscape around her. Her instant photographs captured the raw energy and unique style of the era's key figures, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, and a nascent Madonna. These images, often taken in iconic venues like Studio 54 and the Mudd Club, have become invaluable records of that period.Â
