Modern Funk Jacket II

Modern Funk Jacket II continues the translation of Cedric Mitchell’s object-based practice into apparel, shifting the tone through a saturated gold ground that amplifies both presence and play. While the front maintains the same restrained collection initials "MF" as its black counterpart, the reverse introduces a bold typographic intervention: “Modern Funk” rendered in dimensional lettering that feels at once graphic and sculptural.

The composition leans into clarity and impact: fewer elements, larger gestures, and a heightened dialogue between color and negative space. The vibrant lettering sits slightly raised against the gold field, creating a subtle depth that echoes the layered construction of Mitchell’s glass forms, where surface treatment and volume work in tandem.

Hand-cut and sewn as part of an early apparel study, this one-off sample exists as a prototype of possibility: a sculptural extension made wearable. Never produced, it stands as a singular artifact from the origin point of Mitchell’s Modern Funk ethos applied to fashion.
