The MSA-005 Methuss is the Anti-Earth Union Group’s first transformable mobile suit — the design that pushed the rebel AEUG past the one-form-fits-all mecha vocabulary of the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam and into the transformation-era arms race that would define the Universal Century from the mid-1980s forward. First piloted by Reccoa Londe and later by Fa Yuiry across Zeta’s 50-episode run on Nagoya TV, the Methuss is also one of the series’ recurring tragic objects: a prototype designed to transform but underpowered in combat, used by characters the show treats with particular care. This animation cel captures the mobile suit in close head-and-shoulder framing — the signature orange-and-blue color block, the twin green mono-eyes glowing against the black optic housing, the industrial-plated panel geometry rendered in Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s unmistakable 1985 mecha-design vocabulary. Zeta Gundam itself remains the darkest and most politically fractured entry in the Universal Century timeline, created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, and the painted-cel vocabulary Sunrise built around it defined the look of mid-1980s Japanese mecha animation at its production peak.
