George Condo, born in 1957 in New Hampshire, emerged in the 1980s New York art scene, where he developed a distinct visual language informed by European Old Masters and American pop culture. Coining the term “Artificial Realism,” Condo constructs portraits that fracture and recombine classical techniques into psychologically charged, often grotesque figures. His work has been widely exhibited across major institutions and gained broader cultural visibility through collaborations with figures such as Kanye West. Straddling fine art tradition and contemporary critique, Condo’s practice remains a cornerstone of postmodern portraiture.
