Artist Plate

Boldly rendered in Amoako Boafo’s signature style, this limited-edition plate features a striking portrait where absence and presence powerfully coexist. The subject’s rich, textural facial features and hands — achieved through expressive brushwork and Boafo’s characteristic finger-paint technique — emerge from a stark silhouette, set against a cool turquoise field. The negative space of the figure's body intensifies the gaze and gesture, evoking a sense of quiet confidence and cultural resonance.

Boafo, known for his vivid portraits celebrating Black identity, blurs the line between fine art and functional object in this work, infusing a collectible ceramic format with painterly immediacy and personal narrative. Produced in collaboration with a contemporary design house, the piece reflects the artist’s ongoing exploration of representation, visibility, and the aesthetics of selfhood.
