This original 1989 leather pendant was issued to promote 3 Feet High and Rising - the groundbreaking debut album from De La Soul. Hung on a simple black cord, the hand-cut medallion features the iconic “P.O.S.” logo in red, yellow, and green, set against black leather with scalloped edges, echoing the DIY spirit of early Native Tongues-era merch.

Released in 1989 under Tommy Boy Records and produced by Prince Paul, Feet High and Rising turned hip-hop on its head. At a time dominated by hard-hitting bravado, De La Soul offered surreal, sample-heavy production, wordplay and wit over aggression and psychedelic, peace-loving visual language that challenged rap’s aesthetic norms.

The album introduced skits, conceptual storytelling, and a collage-like sonic palette that would shape alternative hip-hop for decades. It’s widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential albums in the genre’s history. De La Soul's ethos was deeply aligned with the Downtown New York scene of the late ’80s: a time where boundaries between music, visual art, and fashion collapsed. The group’s colorful, irreverent aesthetic paralleled the graphic experiments of Keith Haring’s Pop Shop or the layered chaos of downtown flyers.
