The Air Jordan line launched in late 1984 behind Michael Jordan's rookie campaign with the Chicago Bulls, and Nike backed the opening season through 1985 with a tight capsule of satin and nylon outerwear built around the Wings logo — the basketball-and-outstretched-wings symbol designed by Nike's then-creative director Peter Moore, the same designer who shaped the original Air Jordan 1 silhouette itself. The Wings mark functioned as the first major Air Jordan visual identity and ran across the brand's launch-era apparel and footwear program before being replaced by the Jumpman silhouette with the arrival of the Air Jordan III in 1988. This 1985 short-sleeve shooting-shirt silhouette comes from the Wings capsule: a glossy black satin body with electric blue side panels running from the underarm down through the hem, ribbed black crew collar, ribbed black cuffs and hem band, five-button snap-front placket, and an embroidered red Wings logo set to the right chest at the heart. The silhouette is cut deliberately generous through the body with a dropped-shoulder sleeve, framing the garment for layering over the Air Jordan 1 and the early Nike basketball tee program. The Nike collar tag reads to the specific 1985 production window.
