LaQuan Smith’s Spring 2024 runway, staged in New York before a front row of Saweetie, Quinta Brunson, and Mary J. Blige, was a study in “sexy and refined” power dressing with a futuristic edge. Metallics played a key role in the collection, forming the backbone of what Smith called “intergalactic glamour.”
Look #4 is an emphatic example: a bomber jacket rendered in high-shine purple metallic leather, styled with tonal body-conscious trousers for a monochrome statement. As with his angular leather tailoring and cascading beadwork this season, the bomber demonstrates Smith’s ability to reinterpret streetwear archetypes through the lens of luxury. The metallic finish transforms a utilitarian classic into a statement piece of evening outerwear, one meant less for anonymity and more for spectacle.
