A dazzling interpretation of the ancient proverb, this “See No Evil” necklace by Lorraine Schwartz features a hand-sculpted monkey figure encrusted in fancy diamonds and set in yellow gold. With its hands covering its eyes in a symbolic gesture, the pendant hangs from a diamond-set chain composed of intricate pavé lattice medallions that is the Chinese good luck symbol and brilliant-cut accents, anchored by a striking triangle-cut white diamond connector.
This design is part of Schwartz’s deeply personal “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil” series—an ongoing meditation on restraint, empathy, and inner strength. The inspiration began when Lorraine discovered three jade monkeys during a visit to her longtime jade cutter. Instantly drawn to their energy and message, she kept them on her desk and touched them daily, reflecting on their resonance with her own beliefs, including the Jewish principle of lashon hara—the value of speaking no harm.
Crafted with a mix of whimsy and reverence, these necklaces are highly limited in number and each uniquely rendered. Since their debut in 2007, the monkeys have become beloved among collectors and celebrities alike—worn by Blake Lively on-screen in Another Simple Favor and celebrated at a launch party hosted by Pharrell Williams, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Seal, and others. To Lorraine, they are not just jewelry, but talismans—“my babies,” she calls them—designed to protect, empower, and remind us of the strength found in kindness.
