First appearing in Yoshitomo Nara’s drawings and monumental sculptures such as Your Dog and Aomori-ken, the wide-eyed puppy is one of the artist’s most enduring icons. In 2015, Hong Kong–based producer How2Work released a collectible edition that translated Nara’s public-scale dogs into a domestic format. The Shining Doggy figures were produced in white and black polymer, each packaged in original presentation boxes, and echo the glossy surfaces of Nara’s large fiberglass sculptures.

This edition distills Nara’s themes of innocence and isolation into an approachable art multiple, bridging fine art and collectible design. As with other sanctioned Nara objects, the How2Work release has become a coveted piece for collectors, valued both as an entry point into the artist’s practice and as a rare, finite production tied directly to his sculptural vocabulary.
