Red Fabric Flower

A custom-made fabric poppy crafted for Paul Tazewell to wear with the Alexander McQueen red wool suit he chose for the Liberty London Wicked press appearance in November 2024: the unveiling of Liberty's Christmas-into-Oz collaboration. The hand-shaped silk flower buds a large round bloom of layered red satin and chiffon petals, ruffled and built up in dimensional rings, with a black velvet center scattered with clear crystals and ringed by hand-set black beaded stamens.

The reference is unmistakable. Red poppy, black center, the Oz field through which Dorothy and her companions first reach the Emerald City — a costume designer's quiet visual rhyme between his own lapel and the film he was at Liberty to celebrate.
