Tivoli Audio was founded in Boston in 2000 by Henry Kloss (the audiophile pioneer behind Acoustic Research, KLH, Advent, and Cambridge SoundWorks) and Tom DeVesto, and the PAL was one of Kloss's final products before his death in 2002 — a weather-resistant, single-speaker portable AM/FM radio designed to be carried outdoors, taken to job sites, or set on a bathroom shelf.

The SS18 collaboration was one of the tighter Supreme accessory releases of the era — priced modestly at retail but immediately doubling on the secondary market — and the object itself still functions as designed: rechargeable lithium-ion battery, satellite-style analog tuner, and the compact upright silhouette that has kept the PAL in continuous production since 2003.
