NOTES:

Born in 1967 in Sevenoaks, United Kingdom, Sarah Morris is a British-American artist based in New York City, renowned for her multidisciplinary practice that spans painting and film. Educated at Brown University, Cambridge University, and the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, Morris has developed a distinctive visual language characterized by geometric abstraction and vivid color palettes. Her work often interrogates the structures of urban environments, exploring the interplay between architecture and psychology. She frequently develops her work in distinct series that parallel her films, delving into the psychological landscapes of cities such as Midtown Manhattan, Las Vegas, Paris, and beyond.

In her 2020 collaboration with filmmaker Alexander Kluge, titled Cats and Ghosts at KÖNIG GALERIE in Berlin, Morris presented The Conversation, a work that exemplifies her engagement with multimedia and narrative. This piece served as a projection surface for three films Morris created, penned by Kluge, entitled “The Mermaid,” “Cats in Space,” and “Grief Work for Kittens.” The films and the artwork together created a dialogue between visual art and storytelling, blurring the boundaries between disciplines.

Morris' work is included in the collections of the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Government Art Collection, London; Guggenheim Abu Dhabi; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Istanbul Museum of Modern Art; Jumex Collection, Mexico City; Kunsthaus Zürich; LUMA Foundation, Zurich & Arles, France; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Buenos Aires; Museum fur Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Pérez Art Museum Miami; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Schaulager, Basel; Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; Tate, London; and Victoria and Albert Museum, London, among others.
