Yanyan Huang’s paintings weave together influences from ancient mythologies, classical traditions and personal memory into hypnotic, labyrinthine compositions that feel at once emotive and ceremonial. Her gestural mark-making, reminiscent of calligraphy and baroque ornamentation, conjures inner landscapes through airy washes of color and swirling arabesque forms.
