Founded in 2012, HYT challenged conventional watchmaking by introducing the world's first mechanical wristwatch to indicate the hours with fluid. Combining traditional Swiss horology with microfluidic engineering, the independent brand quickly established itself as one of the industry's most technically daring innovators. Following a relaunch under new ownership in 2021, HYT refined its original vision with a new generation of highly sculptural timepieces, including the Moon Runner collection.
The Moon Runner Ghost, introduced in 2023, is the third chapter in HYT's reimagined Moon Runner series. Where the earlier Supernova Blue and Red Magma embraced vibrant color, the Ghost takes the opposite approach, presenting the brand's signature engineering in a striking monochromatic execution.
At its core is the fluidic technology that has defined HYT since its inception: two immiscible fluids — one black and one transparent — circulate through a glass capillary, driven by a patented bellows system. One of the bellows incorporates thermal compensation to maintain the precision of the fluid boundary as temperatures fluctuate. The mechanism advances the liquid just 1.5 microns per minute before completing a full circuit of the dial every 12 hours and resetting.
The titanium and carbon case is paired with a domed sapphire crystal and exhibition caseback, while black and silver-coated titanium elements lend the Ghost a more restrained aesthetic than its colorful predecessors.
The dial introduces the model's defining feature: the first hand-painted moon hemisphere in the Moon Runner collection, replacing the molded two-tone titanium sphere used previously. Painted entirely by hand under UV light over the course of a full day, the monochrome moon, highlighted by white-coated craters, displays the current lunar phase through a central aperture. Surrounding it, two concentric titanium discs indicate the date and month, while HYT's signature retrograde fluidic hour display traces the dial's perimeter beneath luminous Arabic numerals. The watch is powered by HYT's proprietary hand-wound Caliber 601-MO.
Produced in a limited edition of just 15 pieces, the Moon Runner Ghost stands as one of HYT's most refined expressions of fluidic timekeeping, balancing groundbreaking engineering with an understated monochrome aesthetic.
