Moon Runner Red Magma Limited Edition

Founded in 2012, HYT challenged conventional watchmaking by introducing the world's first mechanical wristwatch to indicate the hours with fluid. Combining traditional Swiss horology with microfluidic engineering, the independent brand quickly established itself as one of the industry's most technically daring innovators. Following a relaunch under new ownership in 2021, HYT refined its original vision with a new generation of highly sculptural timepieces, including the Moon Runner collection.

Introduced in 2022, the Moon Runner Red Magma was the second model in the collection and the first to follow the inaugural Supernova Blue. While its predecessor drew inspiration from the depths of space, the Red Magma evokes the fiery glow of molten rock beneath the Earth's surface. It also marked the second model to combine the brand's signature fluidic time display with a second major complication, a moon phase display.

The architecture builds upon that of the original Moon Runner, pairing a hydrocarbon composite case with a titanium middle section finished in a striking red coating, framed by hydrocarbon upper and lower elements that extend seamlessly into the lugs. Measuring 48mm in diameter and 21.8mm thick, the case accommodates the complex movement while preserving HYT's unmistakably futuristic aesthetic.

At the center of the dial is a large spherical moon-phase display crafted from black and red titanium, mounted on a V-shaped arm with a circular aperture revealing the current lunar phase. Surrounding it, concentric rotating discs indicate the date and month, while a red chapter ring carries the minute pointer around a segmented white minute track. Encircling the display, HYT's signature glass capillary is filled with red and transparent fluids, their meeting point indicating the current hour against a black-and-red grid dial with applied luminescent numerals.

Powering the watch is HYT's proprietary hand-wound Caliber 601-MO, comprising 516 components and delivering a 72-hour power reserve. Beneath the moon-phase and calendar display, the intricate bellows system that drives the two immiscible fluids through the capillary remains partially visible, offering a glimpse into one of contemporary watchmaking's most innovative mechanical achievements.
