Moon Runner Supernova Blue Limited Edition

Founded in 2012, HYT challenged conventional watchmaking by introducing the world's first mechanical wristwatch to indicate the hours with fluid. Combining traditional Swiss horology with microfluidic engineering, the independent brand quickly established itself as one of the industry's most technically daring innovators. Following a relaunch under new ownership in 2021, HYT refined its original vision with a new generation of highly sculptural timepieces, including the Moon Runner collection.

Introduced in 2022, the Moon Runner Supernova Blue was among the first timepieces to emerge under HYT's new ownership and the creative direction of Davide Cerrato. Since its founding, the brand had built its identity around a singular innovation: displaying the hours with two immiscible fluids driven through a glass capillary by a patented bellows system. The Supernova Blue retained this groundbreaking technology while introducing an ambitious new dimension — a three-dimensional moon phase display—marking the first time HYT combined its signature fluidic indication with a major astronomical complication.

Visually, the case represented a decisive departure from HYT's earlier, more organic designs. Constructed from grey and blue titanium in a sandwich architecture, it measures 48mm in diameter. Openworked lugs reveal contrasting blue accents beneath, reinforcing the watch's highly technical, architectural character.

The dial showcases the full complexity of the design. At its center is a three-dimensional moon phase sphere crafted from black and blue titanium, rotating to display the current lunar phase through a circular window. Surrounding it, matte black titanium discs indicate the date and month, aligned to a luminous pointer at 6 o'clock, while a blue disc carries an openworked triangular hand that tracks the minutes. Encircling the display, the signature fluidic hour indication — filled with HYT's vivid Supernova Blue liquid — travels retrograde around the dial's perimeter, framed by luminescent Arabic numerals.

Powering the watch is HYT's proprietary hand-wound Caliber 601-MO, developed by renowned watchmaker Eric Coudray, whose expertise in highly complicated movements helped bring the Moon Runner's remarkable engineering to life.

Produced in a limited edition of just 27 pieces, the Supernova Blue established the design language for the Moon Runner collection. Its fusion of fluidic timekeeping with a sculptural lunar display laid the foundation for later iterations, including the Red Magma and Ghost, cementing its place as one of the defining creations of HYT's modern era.
