This original contact sheet captures 12 images of rock icon Jim Morrison from a September 1967 photo session conducted by Gloria Stavers in her New York apartment. The shoot produced some of Morrison’s most memorable images, later dramatized in Oliver Stone’s 1991 film The Doors. Each frame captures the singer at the peak of his fame, embodying the charisma, intensity, and enigmatic presence that would cement his reputation as one of rock’s most enduring cultural figures.

Gloria Stavers, a trailblazing figure in music journalism and photography, served as editor of 16 Magazine during the 1960s and was instrumental in shaping the visual culture of rock and pop stars for a generation of young fans. Known for her keen eye and personal rapport with artists, Stavers photographed numerous iconic figures and developed images that combined intimacy with style. Her work with Morrison is celebrated for capturing the raw magnetism of the Doors’ frontman in an unguarded, personal setting.
