"Pretty Vacant" — the Sex Pistols' third UK single, released on Virgin Records on 1 July 1977 — signed in blue ink on the front sleeve by all four members of the band: Sid Vicious, Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Johnny Rotten, circa 1977. The record reached No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart on release, giving the Sex Pistols their first appearance on Top of the Pops and bringing punk's confrontational idiom to a mass television audience for the first time. See also lot 5 for an original Virgin Records in-store promotional poster for the same single.
A fully signed example carrying Sid Vicious's autograph is among the rarest categories of Sex Pistols memorabilia. Vicious joined the band in February 1977, replacing Glen Matlock on bass; he would be dead by February 1979.
