A documented Seditionaries-period bondage ensemble — jacket and matching trousers — sold complete with the original 1977 cheque-stub recording the purchase of the trousers from '"sex," 430 King's Road. SEX became Seditionaries in December 1976. The cheque stub establishes contemporary provenance to the precise year and shop, an unusually clean piece of period documentation for a Westwood/McLaren garment.
The bondage silhouette — straps, zip pockets, parachute fastenings, the deliberate restriction of movement — was the design idea that crossed Westwood and McLaren's wardrobe over from the SEX shop's fetish-led programme into the Seditionaries period that opened in late 1976, and which dressed the Sex Pistols, the Bromley Contingent and the King's Road scene through the punk years.
