American promotional poster for the Jam's Setting Sons (Polydor Records, 1979), signed in person by all three members — Rick Buckler, Bruce Foxton and Paul Weller — during the band's fourth US tour in February and March 1980. That nine-date run was the final leg performed in support of Setting Sons; by its conclusion the band had begun writing material that would surface on Sound Affects. Across an eight-and-a-half-year career and roughly 650 to 680 documented gigs, the Jam performed in the United States only sixty-five times. American promotional material bearing all three signatures is correspondingly scarce. Together with the Stranglers, the Jam produced a series of hit records in the UK, but never managed to achieve major commercial success in the US.
