A defining decade of experimentation and stylistic liberation, the 1970s marked a bold chapter for watch design. For Patek Philippe, it was a period of remarkable creativity, where unconventional shapes, decorative artistry, and the use of striking materials took center stage. While for much of the past decade, collectors often gravitated toward luxury sports models or grand complications, the brand's more understated creations from this era are gaining steam. The more dress-leaning side of Patek Philippe’s catalog is only getting more and more collectible.

The present reference 3733/1, dating to 1977, embodies this spirit with elegance. Crafted in white gold, the watch features a jet-black onyx dial for dramatic contrast, while the integrated, horizontally ribbed bracelet — expertly constructed by Ateliers Réunis (Key 28) — flows seamlessly into the semi-cushion-shaped case. Powered by the manual-winding calibre 215, stamped with the Geneva Seal, this example was sold on May 10th, 1977. Onyx dials are known for their fragility, yet this one remains beautifully preserved, free from cracks or fissures. At once sculptural and wearable, it is a testament to Patek Philippe’s discreet yet daring designs of the era.
