LC4 Special Edition Chaise Longue Perriand Le Corbusier

Originally designed in 1928 by Charlotte Perriand in collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, the LC4 chaise longue remains one of the defining objects of modernist design—conceived as a functional instrument for rest, balancing industrial precision with the human body.

This example belongs to the LC4 CP Special Edition, produced by Cassina in collaboration with Louis Vuitton and released in a strictly limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Issued in 2014 to celebrate the anniversary of Perriand’s birth, the edition coincided with a broader revival of her work, including Louis Vuitton’s dedication of its Spring–Summer 2014 collection to her avant-garde aesthetic. The chaise features an adjustable, polished chrome-plated steel frame paired with a self-supporting mattress inspired by early experimental versions of the design. Referencing a historic photograph of Perriand reclining on one of the first LC4 prototypes, the mattress is attached directly to the frame by means of springs, allowing the form to float independently of the structure.

Executed in natural, untreated Louis Vuitton saddle leather, the mattress is finished with seamless edges and contrasting hand-stitched detailing, subtly reinterpreting the modernist original through the lens of contemporary luxury craftsmanship. The headrest is padded in polyester, maintaining comfort while preserving the chaise’s sculptural clarity.

Sébastien Jondeau acquired the piece at Cassina following Karl Lagerfeld’s encouragement, reflecting Lagerfeld’s deep admiration for Charlotte Perriand and his long-standing engagement with modernist design.

Cet exemplaire fait partie de l'édition spéciale LC4 CP, produite par Cassina en collaboration avec Louis Vuitton et publiée dans une édition strictement limitée à 1 000 exemplaires. Publiée en 2014 pour célébrer l'anniversaire de la naissance de Perriand, l'édition a coïncidé avec un renouveau plus large de son travail, y compris la dédicace par Louis Vuitton de sa collection printemps-été 2014 à son esthétique avant-gardiste. La chaise est dotée d'un cadre réglable en acier chromé poli et d'un matelas autoportant inspiré des premières versions expérimentales du design. Faisant référence à une photographie historique de Perriand allongée sur l'un des premiers prototypes LC4, le matelas est fixé directement au cadre au moyen de ressorts, ce qui permet à la forme de flotter indépendamment de la structure.

Réalisé en cuir sellier Louis Vuitton naturel et non traité, le matelas est fini avec des bords sans couture et des détails contrastés cousus à la main, réinterprétant subtilement l'original moderniste à travers le prisme de l'artisanat de luxe contemporain. L'appui-tête est rembourré en polyester, ce qui assure le confort tout en préservant la clarté sculpturale de la chaise.
