Dating from Ayrton Senna’s years with Team Lotus, the present single Stand 21 glove comes from a former McLaren team mechanic. The label at the cuff records its FIA homologation for 1986, while visible wear to the fingertips and palm speaks to its use. Senna drove for Lotus from 1985 through 1987, the formative seasons in which he established himself among Formula 1’s leading drivers and race winners before joining McLaren.

The 1986 season began with Senna finishing second at his home Grand Prix in Brazil before taking victory in Spain, where he held off Nigel Mansell by just 0.014 seconds in one of the closest finishes in Formula 1 history. The result put Senna at the head of the World Drivers’ Championship after two rounds. Driving the formidable but often unreliable Lotus 98T, he went on to take eight pole positions and a second victory in Detroit, ultimately finishing fourth in the championship with 55 points.
