ARTIST PLATE PROJECT X YOSHITOMO NARA (B. 1959)
'It's Five to Two, 2012' Plate

Renowned for his emotionally resonant depictions of children and animals that channel both innocence and quiet defiance, Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara brings his unmistakable aesthetic to this limited-edition fine bone china plate, created in partnership with the Artist Plate Project. Titled It’s Five to Two, the image captures a hauntingly introspective young figure—Nara’s quintessential subject—rendered with disarming simplicity and depth. As with much of Nara’s oeuvre, the work speaks to themes of vulnerability, alienation, and quiet strength, distilled here into a domestic object that blurs the line between high art and everyday life.

We are pleased to offer six plates from this rare edition—available individually or as a complete set.

Produced in a numbered edition of 175, this plate was part of a philanthropic initiative benefiting Coalition for the Homeless. Each sale provided 75 meals to unhoused individuals in New York City, underscoring the social impact embedded in the work.
