I Am Become Death, Shatterer of Worlds is a set of fine bone china plates conceived by Damien Hirst in 2006. Produced in collaboration with Science Ltd, the series features Hirst’s iconic kaleidoscopic butterfly motif arranged in vivid, symmetrical patterns that recall religious mandalas and Victorian memento mori.

The title, drawn from the Bhagavad Gita and immortalized by J. Robert Oppenheimer after the first atomic bomb test, underscores the tension between beauty and destruction that defines much of Hirst’s practice. These plates blur the line between domestic object and conceptual artwork, serving as both collectible design and philosophical statement.
