NOTES:

Rendered in cast bronze with a commanding presence,
Stare Into My Eyes distills Cleon Peterson’s signature style into a powerful sculptural form. Known for his stark portrayals of conflict and control, Peterson here presents a figure locked in an eternal, unflinching gaze. With its smooth surfaces and bold contours, the work evokes both classical statuary and contemporary brutality. Part monument, part warning, it confronts the viewer with themes of dominance, surveillance, and the ever-present tension between power and vulnerability. From an edition of 8, the work underscores the artist’s exploration of violence and authority in rare, enduring form.

Cleon Peterson (b. 1973, Seattle) is a Los Angeles‑based painter whose stark, gladiatorial tableaux lay bare the brutal dialectic of power and submission in contemporary society. His work, executed in bold blacks, whites, reds, and yellows, refuses sentimentality and forces confrontation with civilization’s moral decay. Peterson’s uncompromising visual language is represented in significant public collections, most notably at Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver.

Accompanied by wooden crate.
