NOTES:
Born in 1974, Eric Doeringer is a New York–based conceptual artist known for his provocative appropriations of iconic works by 20th- and 21st-century artists. Doeringer began gaining attention in the early 2000s by selling miniature versions of contemporary art on the streets outside major galleries and fairs. His practice, which blurs the line between homage, critique, and replication, raises pointed questions about originality, authorship, and the structures of the art market.
Andy Warhol (Flowers) is a direct reference to Warhol’s iconic 1964 Flowers series. Using acrylic and silkscreen ink on canvas—mirroring Warhol’s own materials—Doeringer both replicates and reinterprets the Pop master’s aesthetic. The work’s small scale and exacting execution are characteristic of Doeringer’s approach, inviting viewers to reconsider the aura of the original in an age of endless reproduction. This piece encapsulates Doeringer’s ongoing engagement with the legacies of appropriation and mechanical reproduction in contemporary art. Doeringer’s works have been exhibited internationally and are included in prominent private collections.
