A turn-of-the-century stickpin in 14-karat yellow gold, the head modeled as a Boston Terrier — upright ears, the brown-and-white piebald markings of the breed rendered in enamel, with two Old European cut diamond eyes totaling approximately 0.02 carats. The Boston Terrier had only been recognized as a distinct breed by the American Kennel Club in 1893, which makes a finely modeled enamel portrait from circa 1900 a snapshot of the breed at the moment of its formal arrival in American pedigreed dog culture.
