NOTES:
Born in 1974, KAWS is one of the most influential and widely recognized artists of his generation. Trained at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he received his B.F.A. in illustration in 1996, KAWS began his career as a graffiti artist, famously subverting public advertising with his own interventions. Over the past two decades, he has built a multifaceted practice that encompasses painting, sculpture, product design, and printmaking.
Though often rooted in visual play, his work speaks to themes of isolation, melancholy, and connection in an age of mass media and hyper-visibility. Through both large-scale museum exhibitions and limited-edition multiples, KAWS has redefined how contemporary art engages public imagination, cultivating a global following that includes collectors across fashion, music, and design.
LOST TIME; ALONE AGAIN; AND FAR FAR DOWN is a complete set of three large-scale screenprints — these works reflect KAWS’s deep engagement with printmaking as a way of distilling his monumental visual language into intimate form. The set is emblematic of KAWS’s exploration of emotional states through pop iconography. Featuring abstracted figures rendered in bold hues and layered compositions, the works draw from the artist’s long-running use of characters such as "Companion" and "Chum" to express vulnerability, loss, and reflection. The titles—LOST TIME; ALONE AGAIN; AND FAR FAR DOWN—evoke a melancholic narrative that unfolds across the triptych, suggesting both temporal disorientation and emotional descent.
KAWS’s work has been the subject of major solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the UK, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. His work is held in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
