NOTES:

Born in La Paila, Colombia in 1986, Oscar Murillo is known for a practice spanning painting, drawing, performance, installation, and collaborative projects. His work often examines labor, migration, cultural exchange, and the circulation of materials through both physical and social space.

This piece is from Room Services, a live multi-day drawing and printing performance presented at Printed Matter’s 2016 New York Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, in collaboration with Yutaka Sone and Mandy El-Sayegh. Centered around three active workstations, the project produced graphic works, editions, books, zines, and posters in real time, collapsing the boundaries between studio, print shop, performance, and fair.

Murillo received his MFA from the Royal College of Art, London, and has exhibited widely at major international institutions and biennials. In 2019, he was one of four artists jointly awarded the Turner Prize, alongside Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Helen Cammock, and Tai Shani.
