The Breitling Navitimer is one of the most influential pilot's watches ever created. Developed in 1952 in collaboration with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the original Navitimer introduced a groundbreaking circular slide-rule bezel, allowing pilots to perform essential in-flight calculations — including fuel consumption, speed, climb rate, and distance — directly from the wrist. For more than half a century, it has remained the instrument of choice for professional aviators and aviation enthusiasts alike, securing its place as one of the defining tool watches in horological history.
The present example, the Navitimer 50th Anniversary reference A41322, was introduced in 2002 to commemorate five decades of uninterrupted production of this enduring icon. Its 42mm stainless steel case houses a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement, while the solid caseback is engraved "NAVITIMER 50 YEARS 1952–2002." The silver dial retains the classic three-register Navitimer layout — with 30-minute, 12-hour, and running seconds registers — framed by the signature bidirectional slide rule bezel. The AOPA pilot’s winged logo at 12 o'clock further reinforces the watch's deep-rooted aviation heritage.
Originally conceived as a professional flight instrument, the Navitimer 50th Anniversary bridges functional tool watch and commemorative timepiece. It occupies a meaningful place within Breitling's history, celebrating fifty years of one of the most enduring and recognizable chronographs ever produced.
