An exceptionally rare T-shirt by Tony and Michelle, the artists who would soon adopt the label Artistique et Sentimentale (originally trading as Modern Art), printed at the Royal College of Art while Tony was still a student. Approximately three examples of the shirt are known to exist. The design occupies a particular moment in British T-shirt graphics, made on the eve of punk and consciously aesthetic in a way the punk-era T-shirts would, only a year later, mostly reject — a French-leaning visual register that the brand's later renaming would acknowledge directly. John Dove and Molly White, friends and contemporaries of the makers, owned two of the three known examples; the present shirt is one of those two.
