John Dove and Molly White's 'Exploding Mickey' T-shirt, produced under their Wonder Workshop label — Mickey Mouse as the face of Disney, with acid-warped eyes and a head ripped apart by missiles, distilling the artists' disappointment in the American empire of the period: a critique of domestic treatment of Indigenous communities and the United States' continued presence in Vietnam, condensed into the totem corporate icon. The American dream, in Dove and White's reading, turned rotten. Part of the foundational Wonder Workshop body of work that placed Dove and White at the centre of British Pop graphic design, with an example held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
