Dragon Ball Z Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and Super Buu Original Production Cel with Matching Genga (1995)

On March 22, 1995, Dragon Ball Z aired “Gotenks is Awesome!,” the eighth episode of the Fusion Saga. In it, Gotenks has reached Super Saiyan and finally takes the fight to Super Buu—so spectacularly that he destroys Kami’s Lookout in the process.

Super Saiyan Gotenks appears only across a handful of episodes, and is as much a countdown as a character. The transformation burns through the already limited thirty-minute Metamoran fusion between Goten and Trunks, making this one of the character’s most powerful forms.

This lot preserves that moment twice. The finished production cel is accompanied by its matching original genga—the animator’s drawing from which the cel was traced and painted. Preserved together, they form a particularly rare and complete record of one of the most fleeting moments in Dragon Ball Z’s animation history. There is also a non-matching original production background.
