Written and drawn by Tatsuo Yoshida, Mach GoGoGo began as a serial in Shueisha's Shōnen Book in 1966, a year before the television series that turned its hero into an American icon as Speed Racer.
This is the first collected volume, published by Asahi Sonorama in July 1968 in its first edition, with both story and art by Yoshida. It appeared while the anime was still new in Japan and the dubbed series was only just reaching American audiences.
It was also, quite simply, a children’s paperback. Printed on inexpensive paper with a glued spine, it was made to be bought with pocket money, read hard, and eventually fall apart. This example remains remarkably intact 58 years later.
